Established in 1964, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species has evolved to become the world’s most comprehensive information source on the global extinction risk status of animal, fungus and plant species.

IUCN RED LIST UPDATES

The latest update (December 2021) of the Global Red List has been released. In 2021, 174 orchid species (9 CR, 47 EN, 42 VU, 16 NT,  36 LC, 24 DD) have been added, bringing the total number assessed to 1855. Of the new species, 98 are from Africa.
